GUCC
Play Hard, Paddle Harder
MEET THE COMMITTEE
Commodore Wee John will be our commodore for the upcoming year and is sure to have us in the running for best club on campus by the time the GUSA ball rolls around. It is uncertain when John joined GUCC, it is quite possible that he’s always been here. Really wouldn’t be surprised if they’d built the Stevenson up around him. You will struggle to find anyone more keen to rave about the club than John. He’s been on committee forever and has been in almost every role.
Secretary Continuing her reign as secretary for the second year running is our very own Fi Reid. This gal is the glue that holds us all together and is likely one of the first faces you’ll recognise at the pool. You may be mistaken for thinking that she’s more keen for a couple of bevs than a wild sesh but when she goes she goes hard. When not busy studying for law she can be found hanging out with her best pal Kevin the carrot.
Treasurer After a failed attempt to turn GUCC into a duelling club at AGM our polo boi Stefan has decided he’d rather fight his way through the clubs finances. Still dusting off the cobwebs from the repair shed our bonny lad has moved his way up through the ranks and as treasurer is now solely responsible for maintaining our fat stacks. When not busy binning rival polo teams Stefan can be found scaling great heights at TCA and downing pints of lemonade in bank street.
Competition Secretary Our spice queen Cinnamon is this years competition secretary. She is involved in an array of committees and sports but we all know canoe is her favourite. At first glance this gal might seem rather cool but it doesn’t take long to brush the surface and find there’s a lot to giggle about. Beatering on a loch, we are all fearful of how she will handle it when she finally gets back on a river. That being said she does pack quite a punch when it comes to polo.
Trip Secretary Watch out GUCC, next up is Iona as trip sec. She joined the club back in her first year and was quick to brag about her kayaking prowess with tales of having already sent the N’Esk with her big bro Diarmid. The reality was less grade 3+ and more 1-, a fact soon discovered as she hit her first river with the club and Beater Burgess was born. When not “send(ing) it” our toe can be found collecting empty pint glasses in Bank Street and scurrying around having strops in Sanctuary.
Social Secretary Our new social sec Emily will be on the ball to organise socials and make sure GUCC has the most fun. She is one of the keenest freshers to have ever joined us. She loves to partaaaay and quite frankly could drink most of us under the table. She is a loveable bean who will welcome any new fresher with open arms and maybe a cheeky dragon soop. She's come along on most kayaking trips even if that means scurrying straight from GUU, bucket of fun in hand, paddle in the other.
Development Secretary Kirsty left a hole in our hearts when she departed for Russia last year. However, she has finally returned and has graced us with her presence once again. This fun loving gal enjoys anything water based and, if we can keep her from floating off again too quickly, as development sec she will make sure all of our kayaking skills are up to scratch. That is if she doesn’t get her way and transform us into the next generation of SUPers.
Extraordinary Welfare Officer Responsible for welfare this year is our extraordinary welfare officer Florence. She is keen to get more involved and is best placed to help get you out of any bad situations, provided you don’t need help breaking free in rage cage as she is yet to master this herself. This gal will go above and beyond to make sure that everyone has a great time in GUCC and feels included, even if that means watching Unicorn Store until 5am, it’s okay George, she rates it really.
Shipwright Keeping our top of the range boats and equipment in check this year as shipwright is Conor. We have no doubt that he’ll have our fleet of boats up to scratch in no time. If you’re on a river with Conor he is very identifiable by the flashing red light of his gopro which is sure to capture the best of your beatering. Conor is at his happiest with a bit of boat chat but bonus points if you can incorporate some flat earth in there.
